Yitka's research focuses on the patient perspective of bariatric surgery, professional and workforce issues in bariatric surgery, and long-term follow-up of patients. Her research has been widely published and presented at conferences internationally. She is on the editorial board of Obesity Surgery, a Fellow of the Obesity Society and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSSO, the Argentine Society for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery (SACO) and an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Mexican College of Obesity and Metabolic Surgery (CMCOEM).Marissa Chiapperino MPH, RD, LDN, CSO, CNSCMarissa has been an RD for over 10 years, graduating with her BS in Dietetics from State University of NY -College at Oneonta, completing the Sodexo NY Metro Internship and receiving her MPH from UMass Amherst. She first worked at Westchester Medical Center in NY for 6 years and St. Francis in Hartford for one, specializing at both locations in critical care and oncology. After moving to Western Mass Marissa took a job at Holyoke Medical Center as their first bariatric dietitian and helped build the nutrition program. Her position is based out of the Community Navigation department which allows her to address many social determinants of health when treating patients including changing the perception of obesity. In this care transitions role, Marissa works with a team of nurse navigators and community healthy workers to manage patients with chronic disease and avoid hospital readmission. This role is paving the way for the RD to work in non-traditional settings like the home and is very valuable given the ever changing structure of the healthcare system. Dr. Roller is the most experienced Bariatric Surgeon in the region and has performed more than 7,000 bariatric procedures (weight loss surgeries), including the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic modified and traditional Duodenal Switch, lap gastric banding, and the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy with outstanding weight loss results. He was the 1st Bariatric surgeon in the region to perform the Laparoscopic Duodenal Switch procedure, the most complex of all the weight-loss surgeries. As a chief resident, he was given the national honor of Outstanding Laparoendoscopic Resident of the Year. He then completed a one-year fellowship in bariatric surgery at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Roller has done extensive research in bariatric and laparoscopic surgery and has published several research papers in major journals.
